Winter on my Mountain

With the writing of this post, I began to realize a couple things about my picture-sharing methods. First of all, it is very often; I appear to be a very visual person. I love to share and receive pictures, so you'll probably get more than you asked for (if you did at all.) Even if a post isn't specifically concerning art, I usually have a lot of photos to go along with it. (An example of such a post is my "Sunshine Blogger Award" post. Another thing I realized about this sharing of photos is that my website storage was filling up with uploads! 😰

I decided to tweak a couple of things on my website, and I'm very excited with how it turned out. Not very long ago, I had about eight pictures of my work under the page "My Art." While I still have that page up, I have moved the art itself to an online gallery. I am happy about this, because it will allow me to share more of my art throughout the months without worrying about my storage filling up. You can find that page here.

So while I will be trying to avoid large photos dumps in posts (which I might do from time to time, nevertheless) the pictures in today's post are in a similar online gallery. With all that said, I shall move on.

This past week, a great deal of America was hit with a rather large winter storm. It is with conflicting emotions that I record the following fact: my area received at most 1/2 an inch of snow. Ice was supposed to come, whether or not we got snow, but that too dwindled away until it was barely noticeable. I know a great deal of people were badly affected by the storm, and I am thankful to have been safe. But I do wish we had gotten just a bit more snow. (Even enough for a good snowball would have been lovely.) ❄️

However, after a good deal of complaining, I decided to be thankful not only that we were safe, but also for what we had gotten. And I went outside to get photos! The experience was quite a bit of fun, and despite the lack of snow, I took several good ones. Not only that, but I was able to use my new camera---a Nikon Sigma, D7100 (for those of you who know what that means and how it's different from another Nikon Sigma---I don't.)

My dad and I purchased this camera on January 5th of this year, and the difference it has made in my pictures is unbelievable. Of course, as he and I have often discussed, just because you have good equipment does not automatically make you a better artist. The unfortunate fact of a great quality camera means that your mistakes are more clearly defined! This camera will be challenging me for many years to come, and I am excited to grow into it. I'll probably be sharing the steps of this journey along the way.

The following gallery with the photos you will see are a mix from a couple different years, but the majority of them are from this past week. Maybe you will be able to see a quality difference between certain photos. And hopefully, you will also see an improvement in my actual photography skills!

While "Spring on my Mountain" was my favourite post out of the four, I do enjoy looking at the following photos and seeing how far I've come in the past year.

I love winter on my mountain because of...

Frozen dew on leaves

The white sun in a blue sky on a snowy day

Ice-encased twigs

Red berries, holly leaves and little pinches of snow

Snow-capped mountains on the horizon

The cardinals that sit on snow-covered boughs

And glowing Christmas lights entwined around the railing.

I hope you're able to access these photos---I'm still getting used to running my little gallery website---but if you can't please let me know. I always love hearing which picture is your favourite, and I hope you'll still do that, despite the fact the pictures are elsewhere.

Did you get any snow or ice in this snowstorm? Would you have preferred to get only a little like I did? Let me know in the comments.😉

Breathtaking! The cardinal is probably my favorite and then the berries. Then the ice-covered lights and the lake--I love them all! Great eye for composition made possible by great technology!

Ooh! I loved the ice-encased leaves, the berries and the cardinal. Nice photos! We got some snow, but not very much either. Usually we get around a foot, but not this year.

Thank you for reading and looking at my pictures, Abigail! I'm glad you like them.

Ah, are you glad or sad about the snow? Probably doesn't make much difference what you get...it's still cold. haha

Ooh, the photos are gorgeous! I think my favorites are the Christmas lights encased in ice in the first row of photos, and the one with the cardinal. :D

I hope you get some more lovely but non-dangerous snow very soon! We got snow but no ice, which I feel like is probably the best of both worlds. :P

Hi there Autumn,

The photos are really good. Sounds like you really enjoyed getting out to capture them. I like the ice capped mountains and the ice drips off the bush and branches. All of them are lovely.

We got 13 inches of snow and still having bitter cold temperatures. I hibernate in my apartment reading and relaxing.

Wishing you well!

Thank you, Lola! I'm so glad you like the pictures. I felt so lucky to be able to get the cardinal one. I see it all the time, but I rarely have the camera ready!
